Instead of doing a post just on my recent skincare/beauty regime, I thought I would talk a little more about things I do on a whole to help improve my skin and wellbeing on the inside and out.
I remember a few years back asking a make up artist “how do I get my skin to look dewy and glowing?” Her response wasn’t the latest moisturiser or highlighter but to keep my skin hydrated and healthy from the inside.
It’s been very important to me in recent years to look after my skin. I hardly put my face in the sun when I’m on holidays, I use SPF in everything, I drink litres of water a day and i’m even trying to keep fit.
But first, kicking off with what I use on my face. working our way in.
LIZ EARL SKINCARE
I went to link back to another post about Liz Earle and I was shocked to see I hadn’t posted about it before. (Well I may have, but didn’t look too far back) This really surprised me as I’ve been using Liz Earle since I can remember. I was recommended it after having such struggles finding a cleanser than didn’t make my already dry skin tight and sore. This was my first ever hot cloth cleanser and I haven’t looked back since. Always reaching back to this time and time again. The toner is also one of my favorites, never drying and smells divine. I also love to treat myself to the brightening treatment mask once a week which also gives me a good excuse to lie and do nothing for a couple of minutes and it definitely looks a lot brighter after.
Alongside using products that don’t dry out my skin, I have to drink lots of water throughout the day and i’ve really noticed the difference if I don’t. I have a Brita water bottle at my desk, which just makes it so much easier to lift and move around with, plus it saves on single use plastic water bottles. My little bit to the environment.
If i’m feeling fancy, I’ve really got obsessed with adding fruit and mint to my water which i’ll talk more about below.
Drinking more water has really helped my skin but sometimes water just doesn’t seem the most exciting, we’ve been using our Brita Filter jug for a while now and especially in this hot weather it makes such a difference getting water icy cold from the fridge. As I mentioned above I love to add bits to give it some flavour and below is just a handy tip to freeze it in cubes for on the go.
CUCUMBER, MINT & LIME ICE CUBES.
This has been prefect for the hot weather lately. I love having mint and cucumber in my water but it always wilts too soon. The solution. Fill an ice cube tray with the above and add to a glass filtered water for a quick refreshing drink. I normally add more if there’s some leftover but this definitely is a quick win.
So along with upping my water in take, i’m also trying to get healthier (more excerise and a better diet). At christmas my only wish was a Nutri-bullet, sad right? Since then we’ve been blending up a storm most mornings. I kind of opt for the less hard core green juices for more fruit based drinks and this is a great one to get Vitamin C and antioxidants.
3 large handle of frozen blackcurrants.
1 raw beetroot
2 tbsp live yoghurt
1/2 lemon juice
100ml filtered water
Mix all the ingredients – I use my Nutribullet and add some water throughout to get the consisted you like. We prefer our drinks slightly more watery. Packed with lots of antioxidants it’s the perfect way to start you morning.
Lastly, mindfulness. What’s this you say? Yep my friend Hayley introduced me to an app called ‘Headspace’ a while back and although we don’t do it as much as I would like. We do it. Normally before bed and it really helps me sleep.
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I really notice the difference if I don’t sleep well to not only my attitude in the morning but my skin is all puffy and usually breaks out. So if your feeling a little stressed or having trouble sleep definitely give it a go.
